Kitutu Masaba Technical and Vocational College has taken a significant leap forward in technical education with the grand opening of its state-of-the-art Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) Training Complex. This facility is designed to give students hands-on experience with professional-grade equipment and industry-standard workflows in domestic, commercial, and industrial cooling systems.
The launch event, attended by college leadership, faculty, students, and industry partners, showcased the complex’s capabilities, including live diagnostics of modern HVAC systems, demonstrations of sustainable refrigerant handling, and practical workshops on smart appliance repair.
Inside the Complex
- Commercial Refrigeration Lab with walk-in coolers, freezers, and supermarket display case simulators for troubleshooting.
- HVAC Systems Room featuring modern split units, VRV/VRF systems, and a dedicated area for ductwork fabrication and design.
- Domestic Appliance Workshop equipped with a variety of domestic refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners for hands-on repair training.
- Computer-Aided Design (CAD) & Simulation Lab equipped with the latest software for system design, load calculation, and energy efficiency analysis.
“Our goal is to prepare technicians not just to enter the industry, but to lead it with innovation and expertise,” said Mr. Benard Onsongo, Head of the Engineering Department.
Academic Integration
Students enrolled in the Craft Certificate and Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning will now have required lab hours each semester. Coursework will include installing and commissioning new systems, performing preventative maintenance on commercial units, and retrofitting systems to use modern, eco-friendly refrigerants.
Industry Partnerships
Kitutu Masaba TVC has secured agreements with major appliance manufacturers, HVAC contractors, and supermarket chains for student internships, collaborative projects, and direct employment opportunities.
“With facilities like these, students will graduate with practical skills and certifications that make them job-ready from day one,” Mr. Onsongo added.
Community Access
The complex will also be open to local technicians and businesses for specialized training, certification programs, and complex repair projects, strengthening Kitutu Masaba TVC’s role as a hub for technical excellence in the region.
